能量管理，而非时间管理

我经常问自己同样的问题，但可能没有完美答案。学术界压力很大，中国的情况甚至比荷兰更严峻。我最近参加了一场TEDx演讲，演讲者是Nespresso荷兰CEO Kika Buhrmann。她说，工作是生活的一部分，关键不是时间管理——毕竟我们都有相同的时间，而是能量管理：如何安排活动，让它们给予你能量而不是消耗你。这也是我的方法。例如，我每天至少会休息1-2小时，在高强度工作后会安排更长的休息来恢复精力。我还会列出每日、每周、每月的优先事项清单，帮助跟踪进度并保持专注。最重要的是，我喜欢旅行，这让我找到平衡和灵感。

给早期科研人的建议：

如今，科学的跨学科性日益增强。我对早期职业研究人员和学生的建议是保持好奇心，勇于创新，拥抱未知。不要害怕走出舒适区，打破思维定式——这往往是最激动人心的发现发生的地方。

超越平衡：工作与生活深度融合

如今这个话题讨论得更多，但存在一种误解，认为工作和生活会互相影响。事实上，40年前我刚到美国时，很多博士后同事晚上加班、周末工作，甚至冬天安排周末组会都很常见。他们大多数从未抱怨，并且在事业和生活上都很成功。我的一些学生在读研或博后期间生孩子，但他们时间管理能力极强，个人和职业都很成功。相比之下，那些因“工作生活平衡”而减少实验室时间的人，往往频繁换工作，前景不确定。就我个人而言，身兼大型期刊主编、审阅数千篇稿件、写基金支持大量研究人员、创办生物技术公司、处理100多项专利、FDA审批文件、教学和出差，这些工作不可能在每周40小时内完成。即使度假时，我也会思考项目、创意和实验结果。因此，我的生活和工作是深度融合、不可分割的。

对年轻科学家的建议：走出单一领域，勇于跨系统合作

根据我的职业生涯，我提供的一个重要指导是寻找多学科合作机会来提升自己的职业发展。这需要超越自己的专业领域或舒适区进行研究。临床医生和基础科学家之间的合作可以增进对机制方面的理解，并促进治疗方案的开发。让我举一个具体的例子来说明。人们应该能够轻松地从细菌、酵母、真菌、人类和动物基因组中克隆基因，以探索生物技术的应用。例如，口腔癌是由HPV和厌氧菌（具核梭杆菌、牙龈卟啉单胞菌）引起的，因此，人们需要了解不同的基因组。手术后或放射治疗后，当唾液细胞受损时，唾液减少会增加酵母菌的定植。因此，人们应该了解白色念珠菌的基因组和细胞壁结构，以便开发用于破坏念珠菌的酶。因此，如果不了解口腔中病毒、细菌和酵母菌的基因组以及宿主细胞的反应，就无法治疗口腔癌。同样，了解肠道微生物组不仅对于药物输送至关重要，而且对于区分疾病和健康的微生物环境也至关重要。

Jingyuan Fu is a principal investigator at the University Medical Center Groningen, where she leads the research group “Integrative Omics in Systems Medicine”. Her team explores how the gut microbiome influences human health and why it varies between individuals. It contributes to the development of microbiome-targeted interventions for disease prevention and treatment. She also serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of iMeta. In recognition of her scientific achievements, Professor Fu won the Ammodo Science Award 2023. In 2025, she was elected as a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), and the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW).

Henry Daniell pioneered and advanced a novel approach to orally deliver affordable biopharmaceuticals, eliminating expensive injections and refrigeration, to treat Coronavirus, Herpes, Influenza viruses, dental caries, diabetes, hemophilia, pulmonary hypertension, diabetic retinopathy, and Alzheimer's disease, as well as oral booster vaccines for cholera, tuberculosis, malaria, polio, and plague. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the 14th American member of Italy's 240-year-old National Academy of Science. He is the Editor-in-Chief (2012–2022) and Editor Emeritus (2023-present) of the Plant Biotechnology Journal, Oxford, UK. He has been honored for his groundbreaking work by organizations, including the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and is the recipient of the Bayer Healthcare Global Award. In 2024, Scholar GPS ranks Dr. Daniell #1 scientist in two fields (Genetic Engineering, Plant Molecular Breeding) and among the top ten in several fields (#3 general dentistry, #6 in Biopharmaceuticals, Chloroplast DNA).
