Influence of diabetic complication simulation experience on self

ObjectiveTo explore the influence of diabetic complication simulation experience on self-management efficiency and self-care behavior of patients.

MethodsComprehensive evaluation was conducted to the home self-care and self-management efficiency of 44 diabetic patients by full-time provincial-level diabetes professional nurses after admission to hospital. Moreover, diabetes self-management behavior scale(SDSCA) and diabetes management self-efficacy scale(C-DMSES) were filled out. After admission to hospital, diabetic complication simulation experience activity was conducted to the patients in the afternoon when they did not have treatment.In addition, they had experience from eyes, angiocarpy, kidney, nerve, blood vessel and joint complication.The SDSCA and C-DMSES scales were filled out again before the patient left the hospital and the scores before and after the experience were compared.

ResultsAfter complication simulation experience, the diet management, movement behavior, blood sugar monitoring, medication under doctor's advice, foot nursing self-care capability scores had significant difference before and after comparison( P<0.05). After the experience, there was no statistically significant difference in patients' self-efficacy except " being able to take medicine on time as prescribed by the physician" ( P>0.05). All the other items had statistical significance( P<0.05).

ConclusionsDiabetic complication simulation experience can improve the self-management efficiency of patients, improve diet management, movement behavior, blood sugar monitoring, following doctor's advice to take medicine, foot care behavior, help improve the education effect of clinical diabetes, which can be applied to the education and management of diabetes.
