今天就说一个大家都认识的单词吧：

history

history 的来历

根据《牛津字典》，history 这个单词源自古希腊语单词 historia，historia 原义为"inquiry (探究) "，story 源自 inquiry，inquiry 又缔造 story，所以，二者相辅相成，history 和 story属于同一词源。

herstory 

herstory 为上世界70年代女权运动的产物，妇女们认为 history 这个单词是 his 和 story 的结合，所以，历史就是"男性史"，对女性不公平；于是就有了 herstory 这个单词，意思为"女性史"。

不过，有学者认为，把 history 理解为"男性史"是一种无知，因此，也没有存在 herstory 的必要。

historic 和 historical 的区别

historic 形容历史上有意义的时刻，人物和物体；

historical 形容已经任何发生的事件；

因此，historic 词义是"具有历史意义的"，historical 是"历史的"；

就这么简单！

：The 1969 moon landing was a historic moment for the U.S.

1969年的登月，对于美国来说是颇具历史意义的时刻。

你还可以用这些单词来替代 historic：

celebrated (著名的)

eventful (重大的)

significant (重要的)

consequential (重要的)

substantial (重要的)

monumental (伟大的)

momentous (重大的)

remarkable (显著的)

earthshaking (震惊世界的)

groundbreaking (史无前例的)

history 的相关表达

1. be history：意思是"成为历史"，表示事情过去了，不再重要；

：We won't talk about that — that's history.

我们不会再讨论那件事了，都已经过去了。

口语中还有一句：I am history，不要误解为"我完了，我死了"，而是相当于Goodbye，一个很飒很拉风的告别语。

2. make history：这个短语就是字面意思：创造历史，还可以说 go down in history；

另外，还可以用名词短语 history in the making 来表达意思也是一样的；

：What we are seeing now is making history.

我们现在见证的这些，就是在创造历史

This day will surely go down in history.

这一天将永载史册。

The Black Lives Matter movement is history in the making.

黑人人权运动(黑人的命也是命)创造了历史。

​3. a history buff：历史爱好者；

buff 为"爱好者，行家"，用于构成复合词，不单独使用；如 an opera buff (歌剧爱好者)。​

4. The rest is history.：当我们在讲述一件事用到这句话时，表示接下来的事情大家都已经知道啦，不用再赘述；

：We met while we were working in this company, and well, the rest is history.

我们在一起工作的这家公司相遇，然后，接下来的事大家都知道啦！

5. History repeats itself.：这句与中文的"历史重演"的表达一样，指过去的事再次发生，重蹈覆辙之意；

：Once again, I got dumped. History repeats itself.

我又被甩了，历史又重演了。

6. on the wrong side of history：字面意思是"站在历史错的一边"，实际就是"违背历史，与历史背道而驰"；

：You're on the wrong side of history of you think injustice will continue unchallenged in th country.

如果你认为不公正是理所应当的，那你就大错特错了！
